"Will Sew for Food"

This should be the new title of my blog.
I have been busy making halloween costumes for my friends kids.  In exchange my friend is making me a few weeks worth of freezer meals (she's a fabulous cook)
I have also started making some clothes for myself: a pair of pants and a few shirts (pictures to follow)  I finished Jason's 49ers blanket and made a patchwork blanket for my niece.  I started taking a quilting class through a website called Craftsy.  They make it seem so easy, I can't wait to start a quilt.
I have also been running..a lot.  I am training to run in a 6k in October.  I'm really excited. I notice that I get excited to run when I haven't been in a few days.  Right now though, I'm recovering from some skin cancer I had removed on my back so running will have to wait a few days...darn it!

Current projects

Right now I'm making Jason a rag quilt.  I realize that quilts/blankets are probably something you make in the fall/winter (kind of like not wearing white after Labor Day?) but I'm ready to retire my "woobie" AKA my strawberry shortcake blanket I've had since forever.  We sleep with this blanket every night and it's starting to show the wear and tear.
He requested a San Francisco 49ers theme.

Later, I'm making this:

I'm Back

After a little hiatus I have my sewing mojo back!

I'd like to thank the rain, which has kept me indoors for a few days. I was able to finish a few projects I've had sitting around for about six months.

Rachel Comey shirt from Vogue pattern

McCalls knit dress (I plan to take to the beach this summer)
The jacket is from my closet. I thought it matched nicely :)

Bench cushion and throw pillows for our porch. This project was LONG overdue

Lost my crafting mojo...

At least for the time being.  Maybe it's the weather.  My brother and I have been taking a gardening class at the community college taught by Joy Bossi.  It motivates me to play in my yard.
Jason's co-worker gave me a tiny peach tree with instructions on planting.  It won't produce fruit for many years but that's okay...I'll wait :)

Pencil case and bubble skirt

I am so proud of myself! I have learned how to sew a zipper to my projects. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  My first project was a pencil/makeup case. I found the tutorial from Everyday Beautiful.

Up next was a bubble skirt.  backstory--My Niece spends almost every Friday afternoon with me and she has been helping me stay on task by scheduling a project every week.  This last week we made a bubble skirt AND hair accessories to match.

The good news? My blog won't be so stale (at least that's my hope)

Cooking...

My favorite movie lately is Julie and Julia.

After watching it for about the sixth time I was motivated to try my hand at Beef Bourguignonne. It looks so yummy in the movie. My brother (who is an awesome cook) has the recipe....for the crockpot!!

I have all of my "Cast of Characters" (as the Pioneer Woman would say)

So here we go!

New dress form and Projects

I made a dress form over the weekend out of duct tape. I've seen it done on You-Tube, and figured I could do it. I asked my husband to help me. Surprisingly, once it was completed, my measurements were pretty accurate! The only thing left to do now is put it on a stand.

With the assistance of my dress form I was able to complete a skirt I have been working on since May. I also took a trip to Joann's to purchase fabric that is on clearance and pick up a few Simplicity patterns.
My new sewing machine and serger work like a dream!
